Pensworth was started as a local, South Wiltshire, dairy in 1975 by two traditional farming families the Bishops and Jeffreys. Following the retirement of George Jeffreys in 1998, Roger Bishop and his sons, Daniel Bishop and Gideon Bishop have continued to grow the business.
The company offers an extensive range of farm fresh milk and dairy goods to the middle ground market sector. The customer niche includes convenience stores, the catering sector (hotels, canteens and restaurants), garage forecourts, nursing homes, hospitals, schools and doorstep delivery businesses
Pensworth continue to buy their milk from local farm assured farms in the South and South West. They are still a family owned business and believe in supporting other small businesses in their region to sustain the local economy and reduce food miles where possible.
We have reacted to the environmental changes and requirements by offering a 189ml recyclable polybottle for schools instead of the carton as when research was carried out in some schools; the general preference was the polybottle and not the carton. Teachers find it better for the children and children seemed to prefer it. The polybottle is more expensive to produce than a carton but when investing in this sector; we wanted to offer the right product for the future.
When Dairy Farmers of Britain went into liquidation in June 2009, we bought up some of their depots and employed redundant staff belonging to these depots. This gave us a wealth of experience and knowledge to offer to our existing portfolio of customers and secure our position as a leading dairy provider in the South of England.
